Standing Seam Rib Guard

What are standing seam snow guards?

Standing seam snow guards are snow guards that are made for standing seam metal roofs.  They are designed to attach to standing seam ribs without penetrating the roof panel.

What are the benefits of a standing seam snow guard?

This type of snow guard is attached to the rib using two stainless steel set screws and multiple structural cleats. This "clamp-on" style snow guard helps avoid potential leaks and warranty violations. One of the greatest benefits is that these can be attached in any weather. Unlike adhesive snow guards, standing seam snow guards can be attached in the middle of winter. If you find yourself in an emergency situation and need snow guards immediately, these may just save the day for you.

Some other benefits include:

  • Made from durable, virgin grade, UV stabilized polycarbonate
  • Clear polycarbonate blends in with the roof
  • Attractive design for enhanced aesthetics
  • Attaches to standing seam ribs without penetrating the panel
  • 5.5 inch wide base and 4 inch height for more stopping power
  • Y-shaped design for more effective collection of snow
  • Uses no adhesives for quick and clean installation

How exactly are they installed?

1. Place initial snow guard on standing seam (rib) approximately two feet (2) above the eave of the roof or directly above the exterior supporting wall where possible.

2. Use hex bit socket and 3/8” (9.5 mm) ratchet or a screw gun to tighten set screws with reasonable torque. Please note that the majority of the Rib Guard’s strength is derived from the top screw (the screw closest to the face) and close attention should be given to ensure that that screw is tight.

3. Subsequent guards should normally (but not usually) be placed in a staggered pattern across roof as shown below (panel width, roof pitch, and design load will figure out regardless of whether a snow guard is needed on each and every rib and also the required vertical distance from one row to the next ):
I X I X I X I X I X I
X I X I X I X I X I X
(The “X” represents the snow guards; the “I” represents the seams)

4. Continue in a layout of staggering the snow guards over the eve (width) and up towards the ridge of the roof
